Kathleen Quinlan, Founding Partner, named FINALIST in 2018 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards
:: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ::
LUNENBURG, NS, September 19, 2018 - For the second time in as many years, Fiore Botanica Natural Skin Care® has attracted national and international attention. Today it has been announced that founding partner Kathleen Quinlan is a Finalist in the prestigious 2018 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards program. Ms Quinlan is the finalist representing Eastern Canada for the Micro-Business Award.
Sponsored by Women of Influence, the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards recognize female business owners from across Canada who make impressive and substantial contributions to the local, Canadian, or global economy and who have a strong vision and passion in pursuing their dreams.
Out of over 7,400 nominees, 23 Finalists from coast to coast have been selected to represent 7 Award Categories. All nominees are required to undergo a rigorous application process. Ms. Quinlan’s application was scrutinized by prominent business leaders, and following a due diligence by KPMG, she was one of only three applicants in Canada awarded finalist status for the Micro-Business Award. This award honours entrepreneurs who own and operate small businesses that generate annual revenues of under $1 million. The business can be in any industry, at any stage and in any region, and must demonstrate a successful growth rate on the micro level.
Fiore Botanica Natural Skin Care® began in Ms. Quinlan’s Montreal kitchen over twenty years ago with, as she puts it, "a spoon and a bowl”. After making the move to Nova Scotia in 2013 to open the first combined retail/production space, Fiore Botanica Natural Skin Care® has flourished in a small town setting. North American recognition and sales grew with the appearance of the company’s products in gifting suites at the Golden Globes and MTV Music Awards in 2016. Fiore Botanica’s careful growth plan including a combination of smart marketing, a successful e-commerce presence, and a move into the hotel amenities market, has proven that business is viable in rural Canada. “I’m ecstatic and very proud. When I started in 1997 I had goals I wanted to achieve. From the first retail/production space, a thriving website, and a growing presence into the amenity market, all of these plus this recognition from Women of Influence is overwhelming.” Ms. Quinlan notes that “growth of Fiore Botanica has been done carefully so as to be able to meet demand,” she also says that, “with this in mind, Fiore Botanica will begin its foray into the wholesale market beginning in January 2019.”
“Ms. Quinlan has clearly demonstrated that small companies can be successful in small communities producing world class products,” remarked Julie Lobb, Executive Director of the Lunenburg Board of Trade, “A true entrepreneur, [Ms. Quinlan] is an inspiration to others.”
Bernadette Jordan, Member of Parliament for South Shore-St.Margaret’s and newly appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Democratic Institution, heralded Ms. Quinlan’s achievement “as a testament to women-led business, a role model to women and girls across the country, and proof that our rural economies can thrive with innovation and entrepreneurship.”
"RBC is proud to honour extraordinary women who have shown passion, discipline and perseverance in their quest for business excellence and it’s very exciting to have a local business owner amongst the national finalists," says Francine MacDonald, Business Account Manager, RBC.
“This is an exciting year for the program, because we’re not only celebrating some of the most established and impressive women entrepreneurs in Canada, we’re also shining a spotlight on the up-and-coming talent that is about to make their mark,” said Alicia Skalin, Co-CEO, Women of Influence Worldwide Inc. “From across the country, from diverse backgrounds, spanning industries and business stages and sizes – our finalists truly represent what it means to go after your personal dreams.”
The winners will be announced and celebrated at the 26th Annual Awards Gala, hosted by Diane Francis, editor-at-large for the Financial Post, on Wednesday, November 21st at the historic Fairmount Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto.
The 2018 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards are presented by RBC. Award sponsors include Staples, RBC, TELUS, fresco.ca and official Due Diligence partner KPMG.
